2018 Baseball Season Hits the Skids for Todd Frazier

Todd Frazier has suffered another snag in his first season with the New York Mets.

The popular third baseman has been placed on the 10-day disabled list as of Monday, due to a strained muscle in his left rib cage. This marks the second time this year that the 32-year-old slugger has found himself on the disabled list. This season is the first time he’s had to be put on the DL in his entire career in the majors.

Frazier’s discomfort started in the Mets’ shutout loss at home vs. Tampa Bay on Sunday. Following an MRI and a cortisone shot, it was still unclear how long he will be out of the game. Team manager Mickey Callaway has described the injury as a mild strain, while Frazier publicly declared it to be “Just another little bump in the road.”

The two-time All-Star was a free agent in February when he agreed to a two-year, $17 million dollar contract with the Mets. He is currently batting .217 with 32 RBIs, 10 homes and a .685 OPS throughout 61 games. He was out from May 8 to June 1 following a strained left hamstring.

“It’s not fun at all. It’s something I never thought would happen,” Frazier told AP News. “Maybe a DL stint, but, you know, the older I get I still feel like I’m in control of my body and then something like this happens. So it’s unfortunate, it stinks, but there’s nothing else I can do about it. Just keep on trying to get better and hopefully this isn’t a long ordeal.”

Possible fill-ins for Frazier include Jose Reyes, Ty Kelly and Wilmer Flores. For more information, please visit the official website of the New York Mets HERE.
